Breathe in Prana – respiration in the open air

We should ideally do our morning gymnastic and breathing exercises every day in nature so as to benefit from the purest air possible, since it’s from the air that we can harness this precious quintessence the Indian yogis called prana. Prana is life energy that exists everywhere, in the earth, in water, air and fire, but it is mainly carried by the sun’s rays, and is most abundant in the early morning. Each particle of this prana is like a drop of crystalline water, a tiny, suspended sphere of light filled with a spiritual essence. And we can capture some of these drops of light through our breathing. By consciously passing the air through our nostrils, we set our subtle centres in motion and they work to extract the quintessence from the air. Once it has been captured, this quintessence circulates; it is like fire running through the network of nerves on either side of our spine. Just as blood circulates though veins, arteries and capillaries, prana circulates throughout our nervous system. Not only does …

Love is everywhere

Why do most people always need a man or a woman in order to feel love? This is often the root cause of all their unhappiness, limitations, difficulties and dependence. It’s true that love is life; it is absolutely indispensable to us. Initiates are no exception, they cannot live without it but they look for it and gather it from all around them and then they distribute it in all directions. They are constantly immersed in love; they breathe, eat and contemplate love, they think of love ceaselessly. This is why their happiness and fulfilment are not dependant on possessing a man or woman: they already have love. Love is in them and all around them, gushing up and sparkling like a spring of water, filling them to overflowing, their whole being bathes in love. Why should they look for it elsewhere? Why should they destroy this sensation of fulfilment for the sake of something that will bring burning coals pouring down on them? I am not against love, on the contrary, what I am saying is that you can learn to find …

In the first light of dawn

“What a privilege it is to be able to contemplate the sunrise! This is why, each year, as spring returns, you should prepare for these unique moments. No presence in the world can bring order and harmony into you like the sun, nor give you the same light, love, peace and joy. The sun is the source, bursting forth, shimmering and flowing… When you succeed in immersing yourself in this flow of light, you will never want to tear yourself away from it again. And if you arrive very early, well before the sun has even risen, and see the first light of dawn, a feeling of sacredness comes over you, as if you had been admitted into the presence of the mysteries that the whole of nature is celebrating. You even feel the need to walk differently so as not to disturb the atmosphere. You enter into true poetry. How can we not wish that all human beings might one day experience and drink in this beauty, purity and abundance.” Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov Here’s …

Video: Surya Yoga at sunrise

I have just spent six weeks at the Bonfin, the  international spiritual community in the south of France, where the master gave the vast majority of his lectures. Each day started while the last stars were still shining as we climbed up to ‘the rock’ to watch the sunrise. These sunrise meditations, or Surya Yoga, as he sometimes called them, are the most precious moments of my day and I created this video to try and capture, in some small way, their beauty and inspiration. Here are a few recommendations on preparing for sunrise: Prepare yourselves in advance for the sunrise: be careful not to eat too much or go to bed too late, and avoid doing anything that might trouble or upset you. In other words, try to do everything in such a way as to be free with a clear mind and a heart at peace. If you come to see the sun in the morning with your mind centred exclusively on this essential work, knowing that your happiness, your health and your …

Drink light…

Each morning, from dawn onwards, the sun sends a profusion of specks of gold out into space, and we can fill our spirit,  soul, intellect, heart and also our physical body with these specks of gold. Our whole body, from our brain right down to our feet, can benefit from this gold…  There are different kinds of light. The kind our nervous system and our whole organism need the most is light from the sun before it rises. This is the most subtle, spiritual light, and it affects our psychic bodies. This is why, if we know how to look at the sun, something opens up in our solar plexus, and we begin to drink light. It is like a reservoir being filled with a precious quintessence. When the reservoir overflows, our only need is to share this elixir with all living creatures, and there is no greater joy than giving what we have received from the sun.
