Christmas Candles- Advent

Thought for Advent- on the flame of the Spirit

As advent begins, Christians all over the world will be lighting candles, and gazing at their flames-beautiful symbols of the Holy Spirit and the Christ. So specially for this season, here is an extract from Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov on the flame as a symbol of the divine spirit that lives within each of us: ‘A flame is something so fragile that the slightest breeze can extinguish it. But if you nourish a tiny flame it will become a great blaze, and the winds that once threatened its existence will fan it until it burns so fiercely that nothing can resist it. How is that the same cause, the wind, can produce effects so diametrically opposed? The reason is simple: it is because the flame- and we -react differently to the same thing, depending on whether we are weak or strong. A flame is a symbol of the spirit, and if you neglect it and fail to nourish it, the least difficulty will extinguish it. However, those who have strengthened their spirit through prayer, meditation and …

True life is living in harmony with God’s plans

Generally, people devote their days to the satisfaction of their desires and the realization of their ambitions. They rarely question the nature of all these calculations, designs and projects. Do they ever think to turn to heavenly beings and ask, ‘O luminous spirits, are we in harmony with your plans? What is your opinion? What do you have in mind for us? Where and how must we work to accomplish your will?’ Very few ask themselves these questions. Nothing, however, is more important for a human being than to ask the beings of light in the invisible world to enable them one day to carry out the projects of heaven. Because at that very moment, their whole life changes: they are no longer guided by their whims, their weaknesses, and their blindness. In their efforts to know divine will, they put themselves on a different track; they take a direction which corresponds to God’s plans, and that is the true life! Jesus and the sermon on the mount

Commentary on the Sermon on the Mount

Jesus said, ‘Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.’ What was the nature of Jesus’ love? What did he see in a human being? The response is found in the Sermon on the Mount when he addressed his disciples and the crowd that had followed him, and said, ‘Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.’ What this means is that in his disciples and in all those who came to him, Jesus saw the image of the heavenly Father, of the Divinity, and it was to this Divinity within them that he addressed himself as he showed them the path to perfection. While the scribes and Pharisees only saw the pitiful appearance of all the paralysed people, the lepers, the possessed, prostitutes, adulterers, thieves, and so on, Jesus recognised in all beings a soul and a spirit that simply asked for the conditions to allow the manifestation of their beauty and light. It was these souls and these spirits that he loved, and it was to them that he spoke. …

Nothing is more poetic than the beginning of a love affair. A man and a woman meet, they smile at each other, exchange a few words or notice each other from afar and suddenly they feel inspired and become poetical within. But as soon as this love becomes physical, their feelings of wonder start to fade. How many people have noticed this! Yes, they have noticed it, but they do not draw any lessons from it: they make no effort to protect their blossoming love by remaining in the subtle regions for as long as possible. Through curiosity and greed, men and women seek to go out immediately and explore the terrain, and even what lies beneath! Then, of course, things are no longer the same. They do not appreciate each other in the same way and are no longer in wonder, one for the other, as they know each other too well in situations which were not always the most attractive. Why do they not try to keep a certain distance between them so as to live as long as possible in the world of beauty, poetry, and light?

The extraordinary powers of thought

You have an extraordinary instrument at your disposal: thought. But why don’t you use it? Instead you are content to grumble about all the things you lack. You need beauty, poetry, silence, smiles, kind looks, and kind words? Well, instead of complaining about the fact that people are not giving you these, know that you can create them instantly through thought. You might say, ‘But there’s nothing; I can’t see anything, I can’t feel anything.’ Of course, if you wait to see them materialized, it will probably take centuries. But they exist in the mental plane. And this is the reality you should hold on to. Imagine a hypnotist gives you a piece of paper, saying, ‘Here is a rose. Smell it.’ You will go into raptures over the wonderful fragrance of this rose. How is this possible? You have captured his thought, and his thought, together with the words he has used, has already created the rose in the subtle plane. He has succeeded in projecting your consciousness to the subtle plane and you …

How to find a soul mate

You are all seeking the love of a being that many people call the soul mate. Well, if you want to find your soul mate, above all, do not look for them. Concern yourself only with living a pure, intense, and luminous life. Simply live this life and let it take its course; it is this that will attract your soul mate to you. You do not yet know what such a life can do to bring you the beings who have an affinity with you. One day you will say, ‘I did not seek my soul mate, I did not go searching for my beloved, and yet they came…from the far reaches of the universe.’ To find this soul mate, many people put advertisements in the papers and go to all kinds of receptions and night-clubs, but what do they find? Is it so difficult to understand that it is by nourishing something vital and luminous within ourselves every day that we eventually attract this marvellous being we hope for? Listening to the life of nature

Get into the habit of observing and listening to the life of nature: to stones, plants, animals, but also to the four elements – earth, water, air, fire – and the different forms in which they appear: rocks, sand, rain, snow, wind, clouds, sun, stars and so on. There are so many things to study and interpret! Just look at the shape, colours and density of clouds: sometimes they appear like cavalcades, battles, feasts… It is the spirits of the air, beings we call sylphs or elves, at work. There is quite a life up above, which expresses itself through a vast number of shapes: faces, birds, flocks of sheep, landscapes… There is even writing we still do not know how to decipher. But it does not matter, the essential thing is to let oneself be impregnated consciously by all these images, for this is how we make contact with the life of nature.
