A loving gesture

It is your love that will save you, and love can be expressed in all the seemingly unimportant gestures you make every day. So make the effort to always find something new to do, in the knowledge that each little gesture you make with diligence, sincerity and love is like a creature of light that is always with you. The gentle art of meditation

In today’s Daily Meditation the master gives some advice on how to succeed at meditation by being gentle and diplomatic with our thoughts. It relates to the passage I posted a few days ago on why he recommends meditation as a spiritual practice: Meditation is a difficult exercise, as it requires great control over our thoughts. But thought is rebellious; it tends to go free and wander, and if you try to stop it abruptly your brain will seize up. As the brain is such a sensitive instrument, you have to start it up very gently, just as you warm up the engine in a car for a few moments before moving off. So, when you want to meditate, do not try to control your thoughts straight away. They will rebel and rear up, and you will gain nothing from them. Begin by getting yourself into a peaceful, harmonious state of mind; then slowly and gently lead your thoughts in the direction you want them to go. After a while they will be at your …

Only light disperses darkness: the power of prayer

Today I want to post some extracts as a spiritual response to the terrorist acts in Paris this week. So here is something from the master describing  methods to overcome the power of negative forces in the world. As he said, ‘Only light has the power to overcome darkness’. The first extract is about sending S O S signals to attract the aid of luminous spirits. We can do that through prayer and by focusing the mind on thoughts of light: The world is like a vast ocean in the dark of night, and you are like so many little boats drifting rudderless on that ocean. If you want luminous spirits from on high to come and rescue you, you have to light your lanterns and send up flares to let them know who you are. In other words you have to radiate light so that the sublime spirits can find you in the midst of darkness. The Gospels tell us to pray, and to pray is to send light signals up to heaven. The invisible …

Uniting heart, mind and will

People are capable of overcoming all their inner conflicts and divisions if they have a divine ideal and cling to it come what may. If they nourish and cherish a sublime ideal, it will incarnate and materialize within them and take possession of them until it fills their whole being and they become this ideal. People without an ideal fritter away their energies and waste their lives. If you are not getting the results you hoped for it is because you have not yet fully committed the three faculties of heart, mind and will; you have not yet yoked them together in harmony… Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov The New Year  Today I thought I would post some more from the brochure The New Year. In this extract the master talks about how we need to harness our faculties of heart, mind and willpower and get them to work together towards the fulfillment of all our goals, both material and spiritual – but especially our spiritual ideal. I have added a couple of photos of the master to this post because …

New Year's Day Meditation

“Today is the beginning of a new year. And because the first twelve days of a year are related to all twelve months, do your best to live them as well as you can so as to give a solid foundation to the whole year. Tell yourself that there is not one of your thoughts, feelings or wishes that is without consequence. They are like seeds you sow in the soil of your soul, and these seeds will germinate. It is the earth’s vocation to help seeds to grow. Once they are sown, it feeds them, and water, air and sunlight also play a part in their development. So, take care: if you sow nettles and thistles in your inner soil, through either neglect or ill will, do not expect to see wheat grow. During this, the first day of the year, the seeds you sow can also be words, like ‘joy’, ‘light’, ‘peace’, ‘love’, ‘hope’… Ask yourself what these words really mean, and bury them in the depths of your soul. Watch over them, …
