Daily Meditation for New Year's Day 2016

Hundreds of years ago a shepherd in the mountains, was absent-mindedly making a small furrow in the ground with his stick. But then came rain, snow, frost, wind, sun… and gradually the small furrow deepened and widened to become the bed of a torrent. This is only an image, but it shows us that the same phenomenon occurs with humans. Every thought, every feeling is like a furrow drawn in their own inner earth, and all psychic and spiritual forces operating in space contribute to digging and expanding it. A new year begins today… Is it not the time to consciously draw a furrow in your soul? Concentrate on a divine thought, formulate a divine wish and live today in such a way that it that it becomes imprinted in you. Celestial powers will be alerted and they will support you in your efforts. Each day they will be there to tell you, ‘Remember, the first day of the year you made a furrow, one that was uninterrupted and deep.’ And if you listen, if …

New Year's Eve Meditation

“Tomorrow a new year begins, and you can begin to make ready for it consciously by focusing on a goal: a quality you want to develop, a bad habit you want to lose, a project you want to carry out for the glory of God. With this thought, this wish, it is as if you are laying the first stone, and then all the luminous nature spirits will contribute their help, so that you can realize your divine plan. These should be your thoughts on this last day of the year. Unfortunately, you won’t meet many people concerned with such things. Most are getting ready to indulge in all kinds of excess. Can you be surprised, then, if the year goes badly for them? So you at least, who are disciples of the divine school, do your best to see in the new year with the light as your focus.” … “If you want the new year to be truly new for you, think of it as a living, wealthy being that can bring you …

Gratitude is a source of light, peace and joy

“Show gratitude every day for the life you have received from God, for this life enables you to discover so many treasures. Give thanks for the happiness you derive from having good health, a family, friends… Think too of all the unpleasant encounters and all the accidents that can happen during the course of a day and which you have avoided. When you get home safe and sound after a car journey, do you think to thank heaven? It can take very little sometimes for an accident to occur on the roads, and there are so many of them! When you say the words ‘thank you’, it is like a source of light, peace and joy springing from your soul. And this source pours into all your cells. Little by little, you feel something in you becoming more alive, stronger and brighter. This is why, when the day comes where you have to face great difficulties, not only will you not collapse, you will still be able to continue to give thanks. Don’t forget: the …

Symbolism of the star and the three gifts

This light, this star that shone over the stable at Bethlehem means that every initiate in whom the living Christ is present, radiates light; a light that soothes, nourishes and comforts, a light that heals, purifies and gives life. And one day this light is seen from afar by others and they realize that something very special is manifesting itself through this being, and this ‘something’ is the Christ. This light that is represented by a star with five points is an absolute reality: it shines above the head of every initiate whose feminine principle (that is, whose heart and soul) has given birth to the Christ child, conceived by the Holy Spirit.” St Matthew’s gospel recounts how wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, ‘Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star in the East, and have come to pay him homage.’ These wise men, traditionally called Melchior, Balthasar and Gaspar, brought Jesus gold, incense and myrrh. Each of these gifts has a symbolic meaning. Gold signifies that Jesus was king: …

Thoughts model matter

“You say you pray and meditate, but do you really know how to use your thoughts? Both within us and around us there exists a subtle but unorganized matter that has not yet been given form. Our thoughts have the power to shape this matter, and it is therefore up to us to work on it as we would with modelling clay, so that we become creators in the world of beauty, harmony and light. Everything we do, create and construct on the physical level is important, of course, but what we create with our mind is infinitely more important. These creations, which are also living entities, are what heaven judges us on. Because so many human beings have no control over their thoughts, they populate space with negative entities, which spread discord and chaos everywhere! Disciples, on the other hand, are aware of the power of their thoughts and try to produce only entities that will bring peace, light and love wherever they are.” Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov On overcoming negative thoughts- Rise above the …

Prayer releases a higher power

“Initiatic Science regards the human being as a microcosm created in the image of the macrocosm, the universe. And since the Lord reigns from the highest point of the universe, in human beings there is also a peak representing the Lord – their higher self. So when you concentrate on the Lord to ask him to grant your wishes, you touch the highest point of your being, and very pure, subtle vibrations are released and spread through you, producing highly beneficial changes. And even if you do not receive from the Lord all that you asked for, you do gain something, some very spiritual element. It is true that your request often is not granted, because from heaven’s perspective what you are asking would not be particularly good for you, and so it may be refused you. But your request is useful in that you have succeeded in reaching this peak within and so been able to release a higher power, which spreads through you, influencing all your cells and all the entities within, and …

Jesus and the sermon on the mount

Commentary on the Sermon on the Mount

Jesus said, ‘Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.’ What was the nature of Jesus’ love? What did he see in a human being? The response is found in the Sermon on the Mount when he addressed his disciples and the crowd that had followed him, and said, ‘Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.’ What this means is that in his disciples and in all those who came to him, Jesus saw the image of the heavenly Father, of the Divinity, and it was to this Divinity within them that he addressed himself as he showed them the path to perfection. While the scribes and Pharisees only saw the pitiful appearance of all the paralysed people, the lepers, the possessed, prostitutes, adulterers, thieves, and so on, Jesus recognised in all beings a soul and a spirit that simply asked for the conditions to allow the manifestation of their beauty and light. It was these souls and these spirits that he loved, and it was to them that he spoke. …

Light connects us to God

“Some people say they are believers but also admit that, for them, God is an abstract notion. They don’t know how to make contact with him, and they obviously feel that they are lacking something. In reality, the most effective method for connecting to God is to concentrate on light. God is not light, he is much more than light, and we cannot know him or even imagine him. But why then does it say in Genesis that on the first day God created light? He wanted to make light the very substance of the universe. If light is the first divine emanation, it is because it contains all the qualities and virtues of God, and this is why it is only through light that we can come close to God. Here is an exercise to do. Every day, remember to concentrate on light, imagine that the entire universe is bathed in light, that you are resting in it, merging with it, imbued with all its virtues. Do this several times a day, and little …

Never get discouraged-the value of patience

“We can be sure that those people who never let things get them down, no matter what difficulties they have to overcome, will go a long way. You may say, ‘Never let things get them down? How is that possible?’ It is made possible by their willingness. Yes, willingness, for the will alone is not enough. When faced with difficulties, it is not enough to say, ‘I’ll hold on in there’, while gritting your teeth and clenching your fists, for you cannot be certain that you will be able to be stronger than the events you’re faced with, and you will wear yourself out. What I call willingness is a will supported by a mind that seeks to understand and learn from events, and by a heart that is always open to others. This willingness is also a form of patience. Nothing can discourage it. This is why patience is a quality that must accompany all other qualities: we should be wise and patient, generous and patient, strong and patient. Otherwise, all these qualities of wisdom, …

Attuned to heavenly harmony

“Listening to an orchestra play or a choir sing could be an encouragement for people to reflect on the harmony that should reign between them. Unfortunately, even after a magnificent concert during which they have all resonated as one, they won’t think to do anything that would allow them to continue to live in this harmony and beauty. Disharmony is the most widespread state in the world, so widespread that even religions and spiritual movements are still full of confrontation. Not only are they opposed to one another, but within each religion and spiritual movement there are the same misunderstandings and conflicts. And the Lord scratches his head while he watches this mess going on in his name. So, from now on, why not think of the Lord as a conductor, whose role it is to make harmony reign? He is the one who possesses the true tuning fork. When humans become capable of being in tune with one another, they will be like instruments playing a wonderful symphony.” Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov   Daily Meditations

Divinely inspired music- Ludwig van Beethoven

“I love Chopin a lot. Paganini also. And of course Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Berlioz.  The most important thing for me is to sense a language in the music. I love music which speaks, which expresses something. Listen to Chopin, how expressive his music is! There is language there, every notes speaks to us. And, of course, he is not the only one…. Nowadays you meet fewer and fewer truly inspired artists, these true artists who first seek to elevate themselves in order to contemplate the beauty of the world above so as to reproduce it in their art. In the past, artists did not start work until they felt they had come into communication with entities and currents of the celestial regions. And they passed on rules to each other, the art of composing music or poetry, of painting or sculpture. Beethoven, for instance,  was a being whose brain, or more exactly, whose nervous centres for music were so perfected, that he heard certain melodies from the invisible world, which he then transcribed. Of …

The tree of love- spiritual sexuality

“Love may be compared to a tree. In this tree, sexuality is represented by the roots, roots that are deeply buried in the human being: we cannot pull them up and we should not try to, because they are as indispensable to us as the roots are to a tree. The only way we should explore love is by seeking to go higher, further up into the trunk, the branches, the leaves, the flowers and the fruits. And the flowers and fruits of love are sacrifice. The most spiritual form of love receives its power from the sexual force, but we need to learn how to cultivate it, water it and protect it from insects and storms. Anyone who tastes the fruits of this tree of love will savour immortality and eternal life.” Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov Here is another inspiring extract concerning the circulation of love’s energy within us: “Love is not just the feeling humans have for one another. Love is an energy that comes from on high, an energy that has the same …

The Joys of Wisdom

“A sage is someone who has succeeded in ridding himself of the useless burdens of life. He has gone beyond his internal regions of clouds and dust, that is, the astral and mental planes (selfish, common feelings and thoughts) and risen to the regions of eternal sunshine. And his only wish is to pass on to others the wisdom he has won at the cost of great effort. But it takes so long to get people to understand what we ourselves have understood! So the only thing a sage can communicate immediately is the joy he derives from this wisdom, a joy that overflows from his soul and which we could also call love. And those who receive this joy and love are made to reflect because of it. Let them at least ask themselves in what way they too could attain the same state of consciousness.” Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov Daily Meditations 29th September 2015

Love, peace and traffic holdups

How often have we seen that, when placed in identical situations, people do not all react in the same way! If there is a traffic holdup on the road, for example, how do the drivers react? One gets annoyed, hoots and shouts abuse at other drivers, another flicks through a newspaper or listens to the radio, while another one chats with a passenger or kisses them if it’s their loved one. But finally, one of them decides to take advantage of this pause to go within, link to heaven and send love and light to all the others who are waiting too, and even to all beings in the world. This case is certainly much rarer, but it is the kind of adaptation you have to learn to make if you are to become master of all situations. Try it: use your power of reasoning, and while others are getting annoyed or worried and poisoning the life of those around them, you instead become stronger and enriched. And thanks to these experiences you will then …

Despair and regeneration -the healing forces of nature

Today’s Daily Meditation from Omraam Mikhael touches on something I have experienced many times in my life: how the small, seemingly insignificant, things we notice in the natural world can have a profound affect on our inner life- even healing states of depression and despair: “A friend told me that one day when he was feeling in despair, he went walking in the countryside. At one point he sat down on a rock, and there in a tiny crack he saw a few blades of grass. He looked at them for a long time, wondering how they had been able to grow in such conditions. And suddenly, while he was looking at them something in him came back to life. He did not understand how the sight of these few blades of grass had been able to tear him away from his despair. It was not really the grass that had done anything; it was that while he was looking at it he had brought about this change in his soul without realizing it. We …

When you meditate….strive high

“When you meditate, strive to go very high inside yourself and then to remain that high for as long as possible. Going high and remaining there means never failing to be noble, fair and generous, which also implies knowing how to ‘come down’ to help your fellow brothers and sisters. Though you are living and working on the earth among human beings, you should avoid coming down inside yourself, that is to say, avoid giving way to lower tendencies or taking part in selfish, dishonest endeavours. Remaining up high does not mean imitating people who are haughty, unapproachable and hard, people who would think it demeaning to extend a hand to others who are weaker, less gifted, less well educated or of lower social rank. It is quite the opposite. And once again we must use the example of the sun. The sun comes down to us, and through its rays it warms us, brings us light, communicates its life to us and sends us its messages. But the sun itself remains forever on high.” …

One love

‘Everyone thinks they know what it is they love about any particular man or woman, whether it’s beauty, charm or moral or intellectual qualities. But the reality is that each person loves only the One, the Creator, who made beings the way they are. Make no mistake: it is him you love through others. The more the Divine expresses itself in them as kindness, wisdom, beauty, intelligence or strength, the more you love them. So you will never be able to find fulfilment and perfect joy if you do not seek a vaster, richer reality in the being you love. You will very quickly see there is not much to him or her, and you will become bored and disappointed. So then you will go off in search of another love but again very quickly encounter the same boredom, the same disappointment. And no matter how much effort you make, it won’t change a thing: so long as you do not try to see the Divine in the person you love, you will not know …

Beauty

‘Beauty, true beauty, cannot be explained. It is life, a life which streams forth, which emanates. Suppose, for example, you have a diamond; when the sun’s rays fall on it you are dazzled by the beauty of the colours you see. Well, this is true of beauty: it is comparable to the light of the sun. And to the extent that someone emanates beauty such as this, to that extent he or she comes close to true beauty. True beauty is not in forms, true beauty has no form even, for it exists on high, in a realm in which there are only currents, forces and radiance. When a human being succeeds in contemplating this beauty, he is seized by such ravishment that he almost wishes for death. True beauty cannot really be found in the bodies or faces of men and women; it is in the world above. It is only from time to time, if a man or women is so closely attuned to the divine world that they allow some of its …

The strength to serve- putting truth into practice

Photo: ‘Brother Mikhael’ in 1958 “The Creator has given us a will, so that we can make it the instrument of our higher nature by placing it at the service of a high ideal. The first step is to understand and apply some essential truths. Once you have understood an essential truth, use your will to put it into practice, in the knowledge that this is the only way to understand it fully. It is easy to state truths; anybody can go and find them in the works of a few sages and then repeat them parrot-fashion. By doing so they may gain the respect of a few people blind enough not to see how ignorant and weak they really are. But deceiving the blind is not a very great achievement! In any case, there are others who see things clearly and are not so easily fooled: the beings of light in the invisible world. In fact, it is these entities whose respect we must earn, and we will earn it by applying the truths …

Primordial knowledge- remembering what we've always known

“You already know many things, but you do not know that you know. This knowledge comes from a very long time ago, when you still dwelt in the bosom of the Eternal, in light, love and beauty. There you learned everything about your divine origin, your predestination, the work you would have to do on earth to give expression to all the powers of your soul and your spirit. But in coming down to incarnate into matter, you forgot almost everything, and so you need a Master, a teacher, to remind you of what you had already learned about yourself and about the meaning of life. You will all have had the experience, when reading or hearing certain explanations or truths, of something inside you exclaiming, ‘But I know that already!’ Yes, you only had to be reminded, just as embers are rekindled from beneath the ashes.” Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov Daily Meditation This extract rings so true to me. It’s exactly how I felt when I read my first book of the master -‘The Keys …
