It’s wonderful – from out of the crude, dark material of her entrails, the earth is able to form a matter as pure and limpid as crystal. But it’s not enough for us to marvel at nature’s work; we need to do the same work of transmutation ourselves, by transforming the selfish feelings and desires of our heart. How? First of all, through imagination. Imagination possesses real power, so why not use it to obtain the purity of a crystal? You will say that is just fantasy. But no, everything we imagine eventually becomes reality. Once you have experienced this crystalline purity in the depths of your being, you will no longer allow murky desires and feelings to take hold of you. You will sense danger whenever such feelings visit you, and will respond immediately by replacing them with more generous and disinterested feelings…
Concentrate on a crystal and allow yourself to be impregnated by its transparency: little by little, your etheric, astral and mental bodies will become pure and, like crystal, they will allow the light to pass through them.
Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov
I have some crystals hanging in my window- I love watching the light catch them and seeing the play of rainbows around the room. The purity and transparency of crystals is invoked in the ‘The high ideal’:
Have a heart as pure as crystal, a mind as luminous as the sun, a soul as vast as the universe, and a spirit as powerful as God and one with God.
These beautiful and inspiring images were originally given by master Peter Deunov and Omraam M A eventually passed the ideal onto his own disciples when he moved to France. The high ideal is a bit like a distant mountain summit, it is seemingly inaccessible- and in fact,we may never actually attain its heights (certainly not in one lifetime!) but by making small efforts every day towards it we make strides along our spiritual path.
Purity of heart is the first aim because it is purity that allows spiritual aspirants to obtain all the rest- the light, and all the blessings and qualities light contains- cannot penetrate us unless our ‘vessel’ is clear and transparent. That is why the master recommends prioritizing exercises of purification. There are very many different methods and one of them is to meditate on the transparency of crystals and precious stones:
Meditate occasionally on this beautiful image of transparency… You will understand that in order to allow life, light and heavenly currents through, we must open up the way for them, that is to say, become transparent. Everything in nature illustrates this law. Why are precious stones so highly valued? For their colors, of course, but above all because they are transparent: they let the light through. How has nature managed to work so magnificently on particular minerals, purifying and refining them, to turn them into the marvels we admire today: crystals, diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, topazes, rubies, and so on? And if nature has managed to do this, why would human beings not be able to do the same work within themselves?
All spiritual practice must be directed to this end. When we succeed in purifying everything in our heart and soul and become limpid and transparent, the Lord, who appreciates precious stones very much, will place us in his crown. This is an image, of course, but it corresponds to something very real.

What an amazingly beautiful image! How wonderful to become a sapphire, an emerald or a ruby! Much better than just wearing one round your neck or on a finger!
Thanks, as always, for reading,
